More than the sum of its parts, the Berkeley Symphony is unique in its makeup and design. A mix of professional musicans and talented community members who are passionate about the art of music, Berkeley Symphony is a true synthesis of experience and personal enjoyment.
Maestro Nagano served as Music Director from 1978 until 2009, a tenure shared by nearly twenty members of the orchestra. This amazing longevity makes for a unique brand of musicmaking, one which will continue to evolve under the leadership of Joana Carneiro, only the third Music Director in the orchestra's 40-year history.
